Lithium and sulfur compound
WebChemical Compounds Sulfides. Sulfides, in which two organic groups are bonded to a sulfur atom as in RSR', are the sulfur analogs of ethers (ROR'). The organic groups, R and R', may be both alkyl, both aryl, or one of each. If sulfur is simultaneously connected to different positions of the same carbon chain, a cyclic sulfide (a heterocycle) results. WebHowever, several practical problems have delayed widespread application of sulfur. Sulfur itself is insulating (5 × 10 −30 S cm −1 at 25 °C) and is thus unusable as an electrode material. This fact necessitates the use of carbon as a conducting additive in the sulfur cathode of Li–S batteries.
